Fly Fishing 101

Fly Fishing 101

Kenco offers a Fly Fishing 101 class again! Do you want to get on the water and try fly fishing but don’t know the difference between a Caddis and a Wooly Bugger? Then join us and learn how fly fishing can be a fun, easy and an exciting way to enjoy the outdoors. Weather permitting, classes begin in April.
Our skilled instructors will guide you, step-by-step, through the different styles of casting.  We'll explain how to strip and shoot line, as well as how to tie basic fishing knots. Taught in a hands-on style, you'll receive plenty of one-on-one instruction and have ample time to practice each skill, first with an instructor and then on your own, both on land and on our practice pond (stocked with fish). We go over the different kinds of equipment, lines and flies. You'll finish this course with an excellent foundation of fly fishing knowledge and hopefully catch a fish or two.
All necessary fly-casting equipment is provided. If you have your own, please feel free bring it with you. If you're looking for information on choosing a fly rod, check out some personal advice, here.
Minimum age:  12   (children 12 - 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)
Cost for the class: $15.00 per person
Class capacity: Varies, see schedule below.
